Skoda Minotti’s origins date back to 1980, when our founding member recognized there was a niche market to be served for small to mid-sized companies. The vision was to provide more than just accounting services to clients; we wanted to help these businesses grow and achieve greater success.
As our Firm grew rapidly throughout the 80s, it was named to the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing private companies from 1987-89, making it the fastest growing firm of its kind in the country.
In 1995-96, we had an idea that would revolutionize the accounting industry. The Firm developed a new business model that permitted non-CPA ownership of CPA firms and separated service lines of business in a way that permitted unlimited capital investment in the business from non-CPA owners. We worked with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The Attorney General’s Office, and dozens of State Accountancy Boards to receive approval of our new model. We co-founded a public company that would bring together essential business services for small to medium-sized businesses, such as accounting, information technology, litigation advisory services, financial services, insurance, business valuations and add value for our clients by offering these services all through one organization.
From October 1996 through 1998, we led the new public company through an era of unparalleled expansion. Our teams visited, researched, interviewed and performed due diligence on 2,000 companies and eventually purchased 130 of these businesses at a cost of over $650 million over this two year span. During this time period, the company would grow to 5,500 employees, over 240 offices in 40 states and would achieve over a $2 billion market cap. Based on 1998 results, Fortune Magazine listed the Firm as one of the 100 fastest growing public companies in America.
In February 2001, we reinvented ourselves by re-entering the private sector with a core of talented professionals dedicated to delivering on the promise to our clients, employees, business contacts and community.
Since that time, our Firm has received numerous awards for its rapid growth and was named to the Inc. 500 list for a fourth and fifth time, joining only 81 other companies named to the Inc. 500 Hall of Fame dating back to when the list was first released decades earlier.
In 2006, the Firm became an independent member of the BDO Seidman Alliance, a nationwide association of independently owned local and regional accounting, consulting, business and technology firms. Alliance firms partner with the fifth largest accounting firm in the world, BDO Seidman, and share a dedication to exemplary client service. Later that year, we registered with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board which authorized Skoda Minotti to prepare and issue audit reports on U.S. public companies.
We also further developed our niche service offerings to truly provide our clients with a complete business advisory experience that now expands beyond traditional accounting, tax and consulting to include financial services, professional staffing, risk advisory services, strategic marketing and technology solutions.
To more efficiently serve our growing client and employee base, Skoda Minotti began another era of expansion starting in 2008 with the opening of our Fairlawn, Ohio (Akron area) office. In 2012, we opened our third office location in Tampa, Florida.
During this time period, we also completed several acquisitions in order to broaden our service offerings to our clients and add depth to our professional staff. Major acquisitions completed during this time period includes Baumann, Raymondo & Company PA (accounting firm in Tampa, Florida), Dowell & Perez (accounting firm in Tampa, Florida), Lomax, Soful & Foster (accounting firm in Akron, Ohio), DataServ (technology services firm in Westlake, Ohio) and Assurance Concepts (risk advisory services Firm in Tampa, Florida).
